Hoq Sensor

Keep every reading from your fridges, rooms and meters, with alerts when one drifts.

What it does

A feed holds readings from one thing that measures: a fridge probe, a room's temperature and humidity, a power meter, a motion sensor. Anything that can send a webhook can post to a feed with no key, using fields like temperature, humidity and battery. Devices that hold a key post batches of up to 5,000 readings, and a batch sent twice lands once.

You set rules per feed: above a value for so long, below a value for so long, or silent for so long. Rules run on the readings' own timestamps, so a sensor catching up after an outage raises the same alerts it would have raised live. Alerts go by email and to a webhook you choose, once when they open and once when they close.

The feed page shows live values and a chart for the last hour to the last 30 days, with min-max bands, rule lines and alert spans. Temperatures can show in Fahrenheit while the API keeps the stored unit.

Raw readings are kept 90 days by default, and you can set anything up to 10 years. After that, hourly summaries stay so the long charts still draw.

Specifications

Where readings come fromAny device or service that can send an HTTP POST or a webhook. A Hoq Devices box can also forward nearby Bluetooth sensors.
Keyless webhookPOST JSON or a form to /hook/{token}. Common names like temperature and humidity map to the feed's fields; add a timestamp and temperature_unit when needed.
BatchesUp to 5,000 readings per post. A batch is idempotent on its reference, so retries never double-count.
RulesAbove, below or silent, each held for a number of seconds, up to 30 days. Up to 32 rules per feed.
AlertsEmail and a webhook per rule. Each alert is sent once when it opens and once when it clears.
HistoryLive 60 seconds, or 1 hour, 6 hours, 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days, drawn with min-max bands.
RetentionRaw readings 90 days by default, adjustable from forever to 3,650 days. Hourly summaries are kept after the raw data goes.
UnitsCelsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin. A field can store one unit and show another.
OrganizationsAn organization can own feeds. Members view; admins and owners change rules and settings.

Features

14 features, all shipped. Listed from the product's code and documentation; each row shows the day it was last checked.

Feeds 4
PresetsStart a feed as a temperature probe, temperature and humidity, power meter, motion sensor or event log.
Pause and closeA paused feed refuses posts with 409 so the sender drops them instead of retrying.
SourcesThe first post from a key or webhook makes a source; revoking it stops it for good.
Move between ownersMove a feed with its rules and alerts from you to an organization.
Ingest 3
Keyed APIPOST /v1/feeds/{key}/readings with a sensor:post key.
WebhooksKeyless /hook/{token} for Home Assistant and similar senders.
Bluetooth via Hoq DevicesA box with the sensor role forwards motion sensors and Bluetooth advertisements.
Alerts 4
Threshold rulesAbove or below a value for a set time.
Silence rulesAlert when a feed stops reporting for a set time.
Email and webhookNotices to the owner by email and to a webhook per rule.
Alert logEvery alert with its peak, last value, start and end.
Viewing 3
Status cardsDashboard cards with latest values and ok, alert, quiet or no-data status.
ChartsLive and 1 hour to 30 days, with bands, rule lines and alert spans; hide a series from the legend.
Motion marksMark a pose and ask how far a thing has tilted or moved since, in degrees and plain words.

Works with

  • Hoq DevicesA Hoq Devices box with the sensor role reads nearby Bluetooth sensors and posts them here.
  • Hoq AssetsA thing in Hoq Assets can carry a Hoq Sensor feed.
  • Hoq ID and platformAPI keys come from Hoq ID with the sensor:post, sensor:read and sensor:manage scopes.

Your data

Where it is keptRecent readings are in Hoq Sensor's database; closed hours roll into gzipped NDJSON files on the Sensor server.
Getting it outThe JSON API returns readings, history, rules and alerts. No CSV export is built.
If you leaveClosing a feed stops new readings. Account closing is not documented.

APIs and standards

  • REST: /v1/feeds, /v1/feeds/{key}/readings, /history, /rules, /alerts with Bearer keys (sensor:post, sensor:read, sensor:manage)
  • Keyless webhook: POST /hook/{token}
  • Standard: HTTP JSON
